You always want to do that something extra when buying a gift for your only tue love, something personal, something unique. It will help you to grow together and to build a strong connection. Be it with a custom made ring, a custom made necklace or earrings with some brilliant, shiny gemstones it can only improve your relationship.
One of the best and easiest way to give a personal touch to your jewelry is by using the gemstone of your choice. There really is an unlimited variety of possiblities. Factors such as the size of the stone, the color, the brilliance, the shape and so on make every gem unique. Gemstones are usable with any type of jewelry you can think of: rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, or even belts. Gems fit especially well with silver jewellery.
When buying custom made jewellery there are 2 things to be considered:
- The type of jewelry:
Do you want a ring, a pendant, a bracelet,…
It doesn’t really matter what you choose, gemstones fit in all types of jewelry. It all comes down to personal preference. - The type of gemstone:
Things to consider when choosing a gem are the color, size and the shape. Gems come in many, many differant colors: yellow, orange, red, green, purple, etc. As with the type of jewelry just go for your own taste.
The second thing to consider is the size and shape of the gem. Keep in mind that the stone has to fit perfectly in the jewel. When working with a professional jeweller this won’t be any problem. If you are in doubt just ask for advice and your jeweller will be more than happy to help you.
The most common used gemstones are:
- Blue sapphire: Sapphire is the most precious of blue gemstones because of its hardness, color and durability
- Ruby: The color of ruby ranges from bright red to red with a broun tint. Ruby is another variety of sapphire so they share all their properties except for the color.
- Green emerald: Because of its beautiful green color it’s the most famous green gemstone. Flawless emeralds are very uncommon.
- Aquamarine: Aquamarine is named after the latin phrase: “water of the sea”. Aquamarine is a fairly common light blue gem.
- Citrine: Citrine is a yellow to orange variety of quartz. Yellow colored citrine is found in nature while the light colored stones are heated to become orange colored.
