Well it may well have come from the largest producing diamond mine in the world known as the Argye mine. The Argye mine is owned by Rio Tinto, it is located in the Kimberley area in Western Australia. The Argye mine is well known for producing pink diamonds, in fact it produces about 90%-95% of the worlds pink diamonds.

Another Rio Tinto mine is called Diavik, this mine is located north of Yellow knife and south of the Arctic Circle on an island in Canada. The Diavik mine produces 8 million carats annually.

Another mine in Canada called Ekati is owned by BHP Billiton, this diamond mine is again located at the south of the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories. Canadians are proud of the Ekati mine, it was their first operational diamond mine. The diamonds produced at the Ekati mine are verified through the Canada Mark service and are marketed under the Aurias trade name.

Trans Hex owns a diamond mine along the lower Orange River in South Africa called the Baken mine. This mine is very well known for producing some high quality diamonds. In 2004, the mine produced a 78.9 carat D color flawless diamond which sold for more than 1.8 million dollars. It also produced a 27.67 pink diamond which sold for over 1 million dollars. In fact, this mine in 2004 produced an average size stone of 1.29 carats.

The world’s largest diamond mine is called Orapa, its located 240 km west of Francistown and is owned by the Botswana government and DeBeers in a partnership called the Debswana Company.

In 1905, the world’s biggest diamond was produced in the Premier mine located in Cullinan, South Africa. The diamond known as the Cullinan Diamond weighted 3106.75 carats. The Premier mine was later renamed the Cullinan Diamond Mine by DeBeers in 2003, it has also produced another high quality diamond called the Golden Jubilee diamond, and this diamond weighted 545.67 carats.
